So once again things have gotten quiet here at Standard Of Entertainment, long story, but the short of it is, this is a small operation that’s never made much money and is run by a bunch of perpetually broke gamers that also are always low on free time. Yours truly has been working on building up that dollar in RL and messing with stock markets in an effort to eat dependably into the future, but more relevantly, invest some real funds in this project one day (soon), without having to care about the returns.

Either way, something came up in the gaming news recently with good old Blizzard that goes a bit beyond producing some shit mobile game, and since we here at SoE don’t make money anyways, they can’t take anything away from us for putting them on blast for it.

In case you haven’t heard, Blizzard has decided to take the stance of banning and stripping a tournament winner for supporting human rights. In particular, a winner of their Hearthstone tournament, Chung “Blitzchung” Ng Wai, who used his moment of fame to highlight the struggles going on in Hong Kong.

Blitzchung was removed for showing his support for these protests by wearing a mask, similar to ones worn by protesters in Hong Kong, and shouting, “liberate Hong Kong! Revolution of our age!”

Blitzchung declined to comment but said before the ban, in a statement sent to InvenGlobal, that he felt it was his “duty to say something about the issue.”

So I’m going to say right now, we here are done with Blizzard. Fuck them now and for the future. To the individual employees though, especially the ones who have been protesting this decision, we give you mad props.

In the wake of this news, it appears as though some Blizzard employees have made their own silent protest by covering up key parts of a statue at the centre of Blizzard’s campus in Irvine California. The statue has parts of the companies core values written on it. The “think globally” and “every voice matters” parts have been covered up, seemingly in protest to the news.

Full Disclosure: So I want to underline we really don’t get much done here on the regular anyways, this site might not make much, but doesn’t cost much to run either, and we aren’t looking for a fame boost out of this. Seriously, don’t share this post, share the CNN one instead, it’s way more informative. We’ll offer you free shit for the effort anyways when we feel like getting needy like that again in the future, so why waste the effort now? This is genuinely just a case of “I have this platform to call them assholes, so I’m going to use it to call them assholes”.

In the mean time I’m going to find a way to get my Blizzard account banned, brb.
