Balancing the Books (7 of 10)

“Our empire scouts have found an ancient site that at first glance appears it might be of use to us. I want you to go there with your analyzing equipment and find out what it holds. There’ll be Guristas Pirates ships there but I’m sure you should have no problems dealing with them. Whatever you find after your analysis, bring it back to me.”

Overview:

The seventh mission in the business career arc of EVE Online introduces you to some applied archaeology, one of the mini-professions that is much like hacking, which you performed just a few missions ago. The only real differences between the two is that they use different skills and modules and are usually found at differently labeled exploration sites. Other than that, the practice of the profession is the same: Find a site, kill the guards, and use the profession module to unlock a container. You will also generally find different items in these archaeology containers than in hacking sites.

You will be granted a Civilian Analyzer, which is a special version of the normal Analyzer I module used for the archaeology sites. It requires no skills to equip, but it can only be used in this mission. Make sure you have this fitted to access the container you will need in the mission, then depart for the dead space location your agent provided you with.

Upon warping to the bookmark, you will arrive in a room with some asteroids, a pair of pirate ships, and an Acceleration Gate about 14km from your warp-in point. These guys are weak and drop like flies, but you’ll have to kill them to proceed, so shoot them while you approach the gate. Once you activate the gate, you’ll arrive at the second room, which holds several large pieces of debris, another pair of pirates, and the Ancient Ship Structure archaeological container. This is your mission objective.

To unlock the container, just like with the gate, you’ll need to kill the two pirates that guard it first. Once that’s done, fly up close (within 5,000m), activate your Civilian Analyzer module on the container, and allow it to cycle until you get a “you have successfully accessed” message. Then you can open up the container to take the Datacore you need and head back to your agent’s station to turn in the mission.
