EVE Online - Industry Career Arc: Making Mountains of Molehills (2 of 10)
Making Mountains of Molehills (2 of 10)

Objectives

Acquire 750 units of Tritanium (7.5m3) and deliver them to your agent.

Mission Type: Mining

*No encounter.*

Overview

The second mission in the Industrial career arc chain follows up on the first by now requiring you to deliver Tritanium, a mineral refined from Veldspar and other ores, to your mission agent. Unlike previously, however, you are not given a new encounter to mine the resources from. So, unless you mined extra Veldspar in the previous mission, you will have to source new ore from one of the public asteroid fields (commonly located in most solar systems of EVE Online) or just buy them off the market for a small price.

Training the mining frigate skill as soon as its granted so the ship can be flown for later missions in this chain.

The rookie systems, a term used to refer to the solar systems where career agents are located due to the type of player traffic normally found there as a result, have a tendency to have their asteroid belts stripped of resources quickly and frequently. Because of this, you will probably have to check some nearby systems, but since Veldspar is abundant throughout high sec, you shouldn’t have to look far. In addition, it should only take around 100 m3 of Veldspar ore to provide you with more than enough refined Tritanium for your agent.

Note: It is beneficial and highly recommended to train the Mining Frigate skill right as you receive it, since this will allow you to fly the Venture frigate you are rewarded with sooner for some of the upcoming missions in this chain.

On Refining

Refining, or Reprocessing, is the process of taking mined ore and turning it into the minerals that are used for manufacturing items in EVE. This is generally done in the npc-owned stations you’ve been operating out of so far (at least with these missions) and will find throughout the game.

The vast majority have the service and offer it through a Reprocessing plant, which can be used by clicking the icon on the right-hand side of the screen where the station services are listed. You can also right click the items you wish to refine in your inventory, then click the refine option. Constructed ships, modules, and most other items can also be broken down into their base minerals through the same process, though they are generally worth more assembled.

The amount of minerals you receive through the refining process depends on a few things:

  • Station Efficiency: The first is how efficient the station is, which in highsec tends to be pretty decent, with lower efficiencies generally found in lower security systems.
  • Your Skills: You will also have skills that affect the return of minerals, such as Refining, Advanced Refining, and a slew of material-specific supplemental skills.
  • Your Standings: Finally, your standings with the corporation that owns the station you are reprocessing at have an effect, with higher standings equating to a smaller cut taken from your return (after efficiency) as a tax of sorts.

Rewards:

  • + 0.1542 % corporation standing
  • 1 x Mining Frigate (Skill Book, Granted)
  • 1 x Venture (ORE Mining Frigate)
  • 56,000 Isk bonus (1 hours, 24 Minutes)
