The Apprentice Stone
Primary Location Guide
The Apprentice Stone is one of the 13 Standing Stones located in various areas of Skyrim that can be found and activated in order to receive a specific blessing, each stone granting a different bonus that lasts until switched to another. The blessing granted by this stone will actually double your magika regeneration, however, it will have the negative side effect of causing you to be twice as weak to incoming spells or magical effects. This double-edged sword means this blessing is one that should be taken with careful consideration.

How to Find the Apprentice Stone
The Apprentice Stone is a really easy location to uncover in Skyrim. In order to find it, simply head northwest out of Morthal through the swamplands until the stone icon shows up on your compass, then follow the icon to your destination.
If you would rather start from Solitude, you can head to the nearby Solitude Sawmill, which is on the path out of the city and south a bit, then swim across the water from the mill travelling southwest until the icon shows up on your compass.
Since the terrain of the swamp is pretty easy to navigate, there is no specific direction you should take in approaching it unlike the other stones which are located in the mountains or generally rockier terrain. Folgunthur can be found northeast of the location as well, and Fort Snowhawk is to the south. These serve as the closest primary locations to the stone for a faster trip.
The Apprentice Stone’s Blessing
Being one of the five stones which offer persistent statistical bonuses not relating to skill gain, the Apprentice Stone is useful for affecting you character’s abilities when applied in specific ways. As mentioned previously, the blessing itself grants a boost to magika regeneration, coming out to +100%. However, you will also suffer +100% weakness to all magika effects, thus negating the stone’s effectiveness considerably when used in combat with any sort of casting enemy or where magical traps and damaging effects may be encountered.
In Skyrim, you can never have a full resistance to magika in the first place, capping off to a relatively high extent, but still allowing spells to cause you limited damage at high resistances. Since your weakness is effectively doubled, using this blessing for combat oriented purposes or those where you would face spell damage is a significant risk and advised against, even though you will be able to cast your own offensive spells more frequently. If you do decide to use it for combat, keep in mind you will need a ridiculous amount of perks or items that boost your resistance to compensate.
Instead of using the Apprentice Stone to boost your combat prowess, you will find far more use in the blessing granted by applying it in non-combat situations such as skill boosting. For example, transmuting Iron and Silver Ore into Gold Ore can be quite expensive magika wise, thus before you start on a batch of ore transformation, you can pick up the Apprentice Stone blessing since you will not have to worry about harmful effects during this process. Other methods like repeatedly casting Water Breathing or Detect Life to quickly raise skills in areas that you are safe from attack will also benefit significantly from this boosted regeneration. Basically, this is a boost assist stone.
Remember, you don’t regenerate magika while actively casting spells, so this effect simply reduces the downtime till your pool regenerates.
Nearby Items and Threats
There is little threat in the nearby area when it comes to enemy targets with creatures consisting mostly of Elk or Mudcrabs, which are at best a nuisance or a chance to capture some petty souls.
Alchemists will find an abundance of various mushrooms, Dartwings, Torchbugs, Deathbell, and Swamp Fungal Pods to collect all about the area, including even at the base of the stone itself. The swamp itself in general is an excellent location to harvest these items if ever needed. There is also a Nirnroot that can be found right next to the stone.
