The Steed Stone
Primary Location Guide

The Steed Stone - Location
The Steed Stone in the Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.

The Steed Stone is one of the 13 Standing Stones located in the lands of Skyrim, each of which can grant your character with a unique blessing through activating the stones themselves. This stone will grant you with additional carry weight while causing worn armor to be weightless and leave no negative movement effects all at the same time. As with all the other Standing Stones, this benefit is continuous and remains until swapped out for a blessing from another stone.

  • Quicksilver Ore Vein x1

How to Find the Steed Stone

The Steed Stone primary location is situated northwest of the capital city of Solitude, atop a mountain range north of Wolfskull Cove and west of the Thalmor Embassy. Although the world map seems to show a direct route from these locations being possible, you will in fact need to travel along the open land south of the mountain range until you have passed far to the west of the stone’s location.

There is a road that can be found to the west of the Thalmor Embassy that passes by the embassy, but does not directly lead up to it. If you look at the third picture below, which you can see a full sized image by clicking on it, you will see that this road heads west until it splits into a Y with the right path leading to Forth Hraggstad. At this split, follow the right path a bit and turn east off the road to make your way over the open land which will allow you the easiest access to the Steed Stone.

The Steed Stone’s Blessing

Steed Stone - Activated Blessing

The Steed Stone is one of 5 of the total of 13 stones which provides a continuous statistical bonus not directly related to advancing the rate at which your skills level up. The exact bonuses provided by its blessing translates into +100 additional carry weight while making all currently equipped armor weigh absolutely nothing. In addition to saving space in your inventory, especially for heavy armor wearers, this means your equipped armor also no longer hinders movement whatsoever, allowing you to speed along in the bulkiest suit as though you were dashing about in your underwear, granted without the disgusted remarks of friendly NPCs.

The Steed Stone blessing is excellent for just about any type of character, although heavy armor users will of course see a more significant gain from its effects. While not specifically helping you take out enemies quicker or withstand damage, this bonus can really help prevent a lot of headache for the players who wish to experiment a lot with various skills, travel on foot faster or find themselves always running out of space in their inventory to hold all the loot they just picked up from that last dungeon.

Since a sufficient enchanting skill will allow you to put your preferred enchantments on the armor pieces of your choice, even Mages can find themselves wearing heavy armor, crafted to boost their spell casting abilities as opposed to relying on the exceptionally weak damage protection offered by robes and other clothing typically reserved for casters.

There is not much in the way of items near the Steed Stone in Skyrim, however there is a single Quicksilver Ore Vein which is pretty uncommon, that can be found nearby. Head southwest of the stone itself a short distance and look for the ore vein nestled between some larger rocks and a tree in front of it. It can be rather hard to pick out, so check the picture to the right if you find yourself having difficulty locating it.
