So I just received news today that one of my favorite games of all time, Mankind, is getting a new itteration in the works. Now information is currently scarce as this is as fresh as can possibly be news wise, so its unclear whether this game will actually be titled Mankind (the facebook page defines it as a new game based on Mankind), but one thing seems for certain, its the closest thing to a sequel.
If you’re familiar with the game already, head here to sign up for the beta and follow their Facebook event page for more direct from the source news.
If you are unfamiliar with the original game, which is reasonable since it came out in 1998, Mankind is one of a few select games in history that is part of the MMORTS (Massively Multiplayer Online Real Time Strategy) genre. Players made their claim in a galaxy that consisted of tens of thousands of solar systems, each with multiple planets that could be colonized, harvested and turned to the process of war. Starting with just a single builder, you’d make your way, establishing colonies across the expanse of space, taking your space and ground based fleets on paths of conquest against other players in a completely persistent single shard server (eventually a second shard/Galaxy was added).
There’s more I could get into, but at the moment my excitement precludes me from being rather organized in my explanation of just how awesome this is. If any of this sounds the slightest bit interesting to you, I suggest checking out more for yourself, as being someone who’s played a lot of games over the years (understatement) this is a classic gem getting a fresh new look, a term i use rarely.
