Finding the Restless Sands Event in the Stinging Winds

There are two possible spawn locations for the large tile events or locations in the Stinging Winds region of Act II. If you look at the map above, you will see two blue spots, one on each side of the zone which is divided in two by the Khasim Outpost. The Restless Sands, along with others like the Lost Caravan and Guardian Spirits can spawn on either of these two marked spots. If you find the spirits event, you will not find this event in your current game, so you can leave and make a new one if you uncover that event at the first location you check.

The quick and easy way to run and check both locations is just use the Khasim Outpost waypoint, run to one, portal back to town if you don’t find what you are looking for, then waypoint back to the outpost and run to the second spot. If you find the right event, you will find a healthy Mehtan the Necromancer (as opposed to a wounded one) standing at the center with his yellow exclamation mark and three skeletons under his control.

There is an achievement for completing this event and another specifically for doing so in co-op.

The Restless Sands – Event Overview

“Powerful spirits haunt these ruins. I was not strong enough to defeat them, but I was able to trap them. I fear the coven that invades the region will try to use the spirits for their nefarious purposes. But if you dare, you can try to put them to rest. Activate the totems to release the spirits, and be prepared to fight.”

Defeat the Deathly Haunts in the Necromancer Totems

There is a northern and southern totem, right next to the necromancer that you are tasked with activating to release some evil spirits you need to defeat. The Deathly Haunts will come out in groups of three or four from each totem after activated and are relatively easy to put down. They can be a little irritating when they travel through solid objects you cant chase them over though, but they tend to come back pretty quick.

“The voices fade. The spirits in this place are calm. I can begin the work of freeing them.”
“Wait… listen… The Coven!”

Kill the Cultists attacking Mehtan

A rack of cultists and a pair of elite Pain Mongers will be quickly summoned out of the ground and jump you and the necromancer. You may want to stay up on the high ground before this happens to give you an advantage, as you can get beat down pretty quickly from the demon’s large maces, not to mention you’ll be surrounded fast. Mehtan and his skeletons provide some pretty decent help and if you come here during the Lord of Lies quest, you can bring some extra followers of your own. Either way, once you’ve downed the cultists you have to talk to Mehtan once more to complete the event and receive your gold and experience reward.

“We have denied the Coven, but I fear they will find other, darker powers to exploit. Thank you, and go with the blessings of Rathma.”
