The Lover Stone
Primary Location Guide
The Lover Stone is one of the 13 Standing Stones which are spread throughout the lands of Skyrim, each one providing a various permanent bonus to your character’s skills, abilities or other attributes. The Lover Stone is one of the skill advancement boosting shrines, much like the Guardian Stones except that it boosts the advancement of all skills as opposed to just one. Remember you can only have one stone’s blessing active at any time, although they never wear out or stop working until changed to another.
Nearby Items:
- Juniper Berries (lots)
- Rock Warbler Egg (Bird’s Nest) x2
- Iron Ore Vein x1
Nearby Enemies:
- Cave Bear
How to Find the Lover Stone
Just east of Markath there is a river known as Karth River which looks similar to a backward leaning P. Just Northwest of the northernmost tip of the river where it is still shaped like the letter, as seen on the map, you will find the Lover Stone primary location, where the standing stones themselves can be found. In order to reach the stone most efficiently, however, you will have to approach from one of the paths up the mountain that can be found to its’ east, although there is a route from the west.
If you have found Kolskegger Mine, you can start from this location and travel west from the bridge crossing the nearby river, also the Karth, looking for the closest path leading up which should be on your right. Traveling north from this location should also allow you to find a steep path to the left that can lead you to the location, although it is a bit harder to find.
The Lover Stone’s Blessing
The Lover Stone is the 4th and only skill advancement boosting shrine not found at the Guardian Stones location in Skyrim. As opposed to boosting advancement in one set group of skills, the Lover Stone provides a global, 15% boost to all skill advancement as long as this shrine’s effects are active.
This boost to skill advancement is often far more preferable to the specific skill boosts from the other shrines, since while it boosts 5% less than those shrines do, this one grants the bonus to 3 times as many skills.
Note: The one potential drawback, is that technically this blessing counts as a permanent Lover’s Comfort blessing you receive from sleeping in the same house as your spouse. Because this is the case, it will override the Lover’s Comfort as opposed to stacking and offering a 30% boost, so the stone is less useful who utilize this method often.
Lower level characters should watch out for the single Cave Bear which roams this hilltop.
Nearby Items
There are a few items you can find of particular value in the surrounding area, one being an Iron Ore Vein located to the west. To find it effectively, stand at the Lady Stone and turn exactly west. The farthest tree you can see, which is still relatively close, and directly under the W of your compass will be the one which marks the Iron Ore Vein.
You can find a pair of Bird’s Nests which contain some Rock Warbler eggs on your way to this vein from the location mentioned above. One directly in front of you and the other among the rock patch to the right of the ore vein.
Finally, there is a large amount of Juniper trees scattered all about the rocky hill/mountain which the Lover Stone is located on, from which you can harvest a fair bit of Juniper Berries. Look for the small trees which have a particular light green look to them and little blue specks all over.
